older children in booster seats?
my sister is 12 and rides in a recaro vivo high back booster seat. she is 4'8 and 76 lbs. her booster seat goes up to 100 lbs, 59 inch, and 12 years old. she hates riding in it, but my mom makes her no matter what. i was just wondering of there are other parents who make their older children ride in boosters...
even though she is 12, she does not meet the requirements, but she will pretty soon.
my sister and i are trying to convince my mom to let her ride without the booster seat
thanks traylee, i will talk to my sis about it and we will hopefully convince my mom to get a backless for her... although she doesn't think those are as safe. she is very hard-headed and overprotective. My sister just gets so upset about that stupid seat sometimes..just trying to help her feel better about it
thanks meridith, i understand your point
Technically at her size, she should still be in a booster seat. It is the safest place for her. I know that in Oregon, the law requires a child to be in a booster until they weigh 100 pounds. If she was in a car accident with out the booster, she could be seriously injured because the seatbelt won't fit her correctly.
I know none of that makes your sister feel better about it though. Perhaps you could talk to your mom about trying to find a less conspicuous seat. One without the high back, so people can't see it from outside the car. Maybe that would make your sister feel better. Perhaps it'll make her feel better that she only has 3 more inches to grow before she is too tall for that seat...at 12 she is likely to hit a growth spurt pretty soon (most girls do between the ages of 12 and 15).
Sorry, I'm with your mom on this one. Safety comes first. If something were to happen, and your sister died because she wasn't in the booster your mother would never forgive herself.
