Convertible Car seat vs. Infant carrier?
I'm debating whether to buy an infant carrier or skip that step and get a convertible car seat. What's your opinion on convenience and safety?
I really thought, for economy's sake, that I would skip the infant carrier and put my daughter into a convertible seat. I pictured taking her out of the car seat and putting her in her sling to go about my business. Then she was born.
She was on the small side, 5lb 4oz, and when we brought our car seat in to the hospital for the nurses to check that she fit in it, she was deemed too small for the convertible and they wouldn't discharge her until we got an infant seat. You might not be planning on having a small baby, but neither was I.
My daughter is now almost 10 months old and just grew out of that infant carrier seat, and I am sad. I had the kind that snapped into a stroller and we had seat bases in my car, my husband's car, and my mother-in-law's car so it was really simple to take her place to place. If she was sleeping when I got to the store, I could just snap the seat out of the base, pop it on her stroller or shopping cart, and away we would go! I am really missing it already.
