Electric window fell out of place, (down into door) of 2001 pontiac grand am.?
Its winter in wisconsin and my electric window came out of place (boyfriend heard a snap sound) we were able to keep it rolled up for ahwile but last night it fell out of place, and down into the door.
What would it take to fix this? could we take the door off and find the window and pull it up into place until I can afford to get a new one? Or do I need to replace whole window system since I think it broke out of place. I am broke but need my car to travel with my infant daughter and want to travel a few hours for christmas in a couple weeks and I don't know what I can do for now
The windows on that particular car are attached to the regulator with 2 metal tabs that are glued to the bottom of the window and then bolted to the regulator assembly. They have either come unglued from the window or they broke in half, neither of which is uncommon. You need to remove the door trim panel to gain access to the door glass and you should be able to slide it back into place. Once you have it lifted back into place you need to use 3M green masking tape, available at most auto parts stores, and tape it into place by starting on the inside of the window towards the top and going over the door frame and end the tape on the outside of the window at the top. Do that in at least 2 places and use 3-4 layers of tape in each spot. Do not use duct tape as it will leave a sticky residue behind when you remove it. When you are ready to have it properly fixed, take it to a automotive glass shop or a collision repair center. The glass shop will be your best bet as most collision centers sublet their glass work anyway. If it is the tabs at the bottom of the glass it will take a special glue to reattach them.
