When preparing for a new baby, what's the difference between an infant car seat and a convertible seat?
I am 34 wks pregnant and we are preparing for the new baby, but I am confused regarding which kind of seat I should get. I looked on Walmart and seen 2 diff. kinds. One is an infant car seat and the other is the convertible car seat. We are trying to save money, but I dont know what the best option would be. What's the difference between the two and can I just get a convertible seat instead of the infant car seat?
Infant seats are for convenience of 'not waking' baby when you get out of the car, or go into a restaurant. These last about 6 months for most kids. A high 'price' for convenience I think. Years ago, there were never 'infant seat' and the babies did just fine. I use a sling for my grandson. Take him out, plop him in the sling carrier. In restaurants, we take the stroller in. Those dang infant carriers get heavy after 3 months. Just remember, rear-face as long as the seat allow. Mine stayed rear-face till nearly three years old. Much much safer than the out-dated 12 month/20 pound rule most states have. This is the earliest to turn to front facing, yet actually can put most babies at risk.
